Discover, connect, interact and support… WAPI? A vibrant and growing community of unique, local and ethical artisans, brands and initiatives and those who appreciate and love their work…but, ‘where’ did it start??
WAPI? CEO Rebecca Szantyr was newly arrived in Kenya, excited to begin a new chapter in her life. As a lover of artisanal and one-of-a-kind products and activities, she dived right into the novel culture she found herself in, eager to explore what Kenya had to offer. One day on a guided tour of Nairobi, she was pleasantly surprised to come across one talented local artisan after another, who were all unique and niche. Realizing she would never have come into contact with them had she not gone off the beaten track, away from the usual go-to malls and places most people find themselves frequenting, she thought, “Everyone should know about them!”
And thus, ‘WAPI?’ was born. Swahili for ‘where?’, WAPI? is exactly that. It’s where to find local, unique, artisanal and ethical products and experiences.
Armed with the idea and a burning passion to bring exposure to a side of the city she believed many people would be just as excited to discover, Rebecca found out first-hand the truth behind the phrase, ‘Your vibe attracts your tribe.’ She begun to bump into like-minded individuals who were happy to jump on board, meeting Joseph, Jessica and Nadya in quick succession; and so, the dream became a reality.
