From the towering mountain tops that make your heart sing, to the quiet wooded paths along gurgling streams… Earth; what a wonderful place to live, one full of marvels that take our breath away, with dazzling and unique landscapes. And what’s more magical, magnificent and mysteriously beautiful than the oceans?
Now, let’s talk plastic.
EVERY single piece of plastic ever made since the 1950’s still exists, aside from a tiny % that’s incinerated…which makes it easy to see why there’s more micro-plastic in our poetically beautiful oceans, than known stars in the Milky Way. Seriously. 8 million metric tons of plastic each year! At this rate what will we see in our seas, plastic or fish in the sea? And factor in that plastic chokes, maims and kills
The statistics are startling. 1 million plastic bottles and 2 million plastic bags are bought every MINUTE… Not to mention the ear-buds, make-up packaging, soap, shampoo, all kinds of food, toothbrushes, label stickers, phone cases, pens… We’re literally surrounded.
Picture this; You’re having a party at home, and everyone’s walking in and out throwing bottles of soda on the carpet, scattering tissue on the ground, dropping packets of snacks casually as they finish them… Would you stand for it? To see someone toss remnants of a fast-food meal onto the floor of your house?…
Well…Isn’t Earth home? Even though we build shelters of wood or stone? So while we’re all having this lavish party of ‘blind’ consumerism, we’re choking the very home that allows humanity to thrive…and survive.
Change; it’s much easier than you think! We’re natural aren’t we? So it’s just a matter of consciously choosing ‘green’. Cut out as much plastic as you can, start small! Order your next drink and specify, “No straw.” Get a re-usable water bottle, try a bamboo toothbrush, opt for recyclable packaging and actually recycle! Let’s stop purchasing our demise. It’ll be a slightly higher price if you’re thinking moneywise; but in the grand scheme of things, what’s more valuable than life?
This is your home. Don’t let anyone trash it as you stand by or pretend you’re not responsible and turn a blind eye. Our oceans are vital living eco-systems that are essential to our livelihoods here on earth…if they die, we do too. We’re going to make a change, are you?
